If you have not bought the sofa yet, do not guess. Use the seat height from the product specification instead. Much like setting the right height for your kitchen sinks and countertops, the best figure is the one fitted to the user. A generic number off a chart rarely matches the person who sits there.
How to Lock In the Right Height Before Your Carpentry is Built
Wall-mounted console carpentry involves drilling into the wall and concealing cable channels behind the unit. As such, correcting an installation will involve the inconvenience and expense of undoing finished joinery.
So, before you commit, mark it out physically:
- Run a strip of masking tape on the wall at the proposed console height and TV centre point.
- Sit on your sofa and live with the marks for a full day.
- Confirm the measurements with your contractor only after you’re sure the height feels right.
